Probate records are among the most beneficial records in genealogical research. Inventories provide a means of establishing the socioeconomic status of a family. When the last will and testament is lost, an inventory can determine an estimated date of death. The examination of an inventory coupled with the Accounts of Sale can produce a vivid and detailed portrait of the life of a family, and often a neighborhood.
